Insurance and Excess Reduction

All prices and charges are quoted in New Zealand Dollars and include 12.5% Goods and Services Tax (GST).
All credit card transactions are conducted in New Zealand Dollars. Preferred credit cards are Visa and MasterCard.
Personal and company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pickup. These must be received by us 14 days prior to the commencement of rental. The Vehicle Security Bond can only be made with cash and/or credit card. If paying by credit card, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer.

Included in the standard rates:

Rental Duration
  • Minimum rental period 7 days
  • Vehicle rentals are calculated on a per calendar day basis, the day of pick up or drop-off is always counted as a full day   irrespective of what time it is collected or dropped off
  • Late pick up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
  • The vehicle must be returned to the Warkworth or Christchurch depots by 4 pm or other prearranged place by 3pm on the day of drop off. Late returns will incur the charges set out below.
  • Late returns will be charged on a per day basis. A charge of $50 per extra hour applies (maximum charge of the daily rental rate). Failure to obtain authorisation for a rental extension will result in a daily fee of $150.00 in addition to the daily rate.
  • Special conditions apply for rentals of more than 50 days
  • When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates.

 


Cancellation Fee

The cancellation fees are:

  • If cancelled up to 28 days prior to pick up = no fee
  • If cancelled from 27-7 days prior to pick up = 20% of gross rental
  • If cancelled 6 days to 1 day prior to pick up= 50% of gross rental
  • If cancelled on day of pick up or no show = 100% of gross rental
  • If vehicle is returned early = no refund available

Diesel Tax Recovery Fee

  • A Diesel Tax recovery fee is payable at the end of the hire period, calculated on the Km’s travelled during the hire. This fee is collected for remittance to the government. The vehicle rate is $2.47 per 100 Km’s. Rates are subject to Government change.
    Note: The Diesel Tax Recovery Fee is included in the all inclusive package

One Way Rental Fee

  • One way rentals are only available from Auckland to Christchurch and Auckland to Wellington. A one way rental fee of $375.00 (to Christchurch) or $200.00 (to Wellington) will apply per hire.

Change of Drop-off Destination

  • If the hirer wishes to change the drop-off destination after the rental has commenced, they first must obtain authorisation. Subject to the change being approved, the one way rental fee of $375.00 will apply.

Licence and Age Restriction

  • Full resident country drivers licence, held for a least one year, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in English format, an international driver’s licence is also required.
  • Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. A medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the duration of the hire is required for the drivers over the age of 75.
  • Drivers aged between 21 years and 25 years have a minimum excess of $3000.00 regardless of the insurance package chosen.
  • Traffic infringements. We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including third party property damage not reported on the return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine will be $50.00.

Second Driver Fee

  • An extra driver fee of $5.00 per day (maximum charge of $150.00 per rental) applies.
    Note: Second driver fees are included in the All Inclusive Package.

Personal Insurance

  • New Zealand legislation provides limited coverage for personal injury. We strongly recommend that all people travelling in New Zealand take out personal travel insurance with their insurer.

Vehicle Insurance

All vehicles require to be covered by comprehensive insurance.
Two options are available for the hirer:

  • Standard Insurance
  • All Inclusive Package ( with excess reduction if the hirer is aged 25 years and over)

 

Standard Insurance is included. The hirer is responsible for the first $2,000.00 ( “the excess”) of the cost of damage to either our vehicle or third party property, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, overhead or underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage).
All Inclusive Package costs $10.00 incl GST per day. The hirer is responsible for the first $500.00 of the cost of damage to either our vehicle or third party property, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, overhead or underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage).
In addition the package includes

  • The Excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
  • The Excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident is reported. The excess will be refunded if we are successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the third party. Please note that Third Party Claims can take months to resolve.
  • The Security Bond of $2,000.00 (for the Standard Insurance) or $500.00 (for the All Inclusive Package) will be taken at the commencement of the hire. Should the Standard Insurance security bond be paid by credit card, the amount will be debited to your account immediately following authorisation. The security bond for the reduced excess packages may only be paid by cash and/or credit card; a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken, but not debited to your account. There is no   liability for exchange rate variances in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged.

  • NOTE: If we are  unable to obtain authorisation for the payment of the Standard Insurance Bond, the company reserves the right to charge the hirer the All Inclusive Package daily rate of $10.00 per day, to cover the hirer’s insurance obligations.
  • The Security Bond is fully refunded upon the return of the vehicle to the agreed place, at the agreed time, with no damage incurred to the   vehicle or third party property, with a clean interior, emptied toilet cassette (if fitted) and waste water tank (if fitted), full fuel tanks (both diesel and LPG gas {if fitted}) and no items are lost or damaged.
    Note: We  will refill the LPG bottle at the end of the hire if the All Inclusive Package has been selected by the hirer.

Important:

Please see the exclusions section below, whereby the Excess Cover will be made void.

Exclusions:
The hirer is liable for any damage to the  vehicle or third party property if:

  1. The terms of the rental contract are breached
  2. Damage to the vehicle is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving
  3. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  4. Driving on restricted roads
  5. Water submersion or salt water damage caused through drivers/ hirers fault

In addition the hirer is liable for:

  • The cost associated with the incorrect use of fuel. (i.e. refuelling with petrol for a diesel engine)
  • The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle that is bogged regardless of the excess insurance package taken
  • The cost for replacing lost keys or retrieval of keys which have become locked in the vehicle
  • Personal belongings: We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.

Important:

In the event of an accident, the hirer must complete the Motor Vehicle Accident Form, including full details of Third Party and Witness details if present.

Vehicle Maintenance, Security & Safety
The hirer must
1.    Maintain the vehicle engine oil and coolant to the manufacturer’s specifications.
2.    Keep the vehicle locked and the keys under the hirers’ personal control at all times.
3.    Comply with any applicable seat belt laws.

Road Restrictions

  • Vehicles can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads or well maintained roads. No vehicles should be driven Skippers Road (Queenstown), 90 Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hutt Road (Mt Cook), North of Coalville Township (Coromandel Peninsula), and all unsealed ski access roads. We reserve the right to restrict the movements of vehicles in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.

On Road Assistance

  • Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure must be reported to us as soon as possible and within 24 hours in order to give us the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation.We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.

Repairs

  • Repairs up to $100.00 may be effected without authorization and will be reimbursed. Amounts over $100.00 require approval. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.

Vehicle Return

  • All vehicles must be returned with a full fuel tank
  • Refuelling by us  will be charged at $1.50 per litre of fuel
  • Toilet, if fitted, to be cleaned and refilled with chemicals, otherwise a $150.00 soiling fee will apply
  • Inside of the vehicle must be clean and tidy, all dishes washed and rubbish removed, or $150.00 charge applies.

Change of Vehicle

  • Should the vehicle booked be unavailable we reserve the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle at no extra cost to the hirer. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.

Voluntary Downgrade

  • Should the hirer decide to take a smaller vehicle than reserved for them, they will not be entitled to any refund.

Immediate Return of Vehicle

  • We shall have the right to terminate the hire and take immediate possession of the vehicle if the hirer fails to comply with any of the terms and conditions of this agreement, or if the vehicle is damaged. The termination of the hire under the authority of this clause shall be without prejudice to the other rights of the owner and the rights of the hirer within this agreement.

Animals

  • No animals permitted in the vehicles with the exception of guide dogs.

IMPORTANT
We reserve the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
